Frequently asked questions
What is e liquid?
E-liquids consist of a few key ingredients:
These components work together to deliver your ideal vape hit, cloud production, and flavour sensation.
Most vape juices contain both VG (Vegetable Glycerine) and PG (Propylene Glycol), and the ratio between them determines your vaping experience.
- Higher PG (like 60/40) — This gives you a stronger throat hit and more intense flavour. They're great for smaller kits and those who prefer a mouth to lung (MTL) vaping style, similar to smoking.
- Higher VG (like 70/30) — Produces thicker clouds and a smoother inhale, making them ideal for sub-ohm kits and direct to lung (DTL) vaping.
Check the label for the VG/PG ratio to find what works best with your device and how you like to vape.
There are a few main types of e liquid, and each one offers a different kind of vaping experience:
- Nicotine salts — Ideal for a smooth and satisfying hit, even at higher nicotine strengths. Nic salts absorb quickly into the bloodstream and are perfect for newer vapers or anyone using a low-powered device like a pod kit.
- Freebase nicotine — This is the more traditional e-liquid. It gives a stronger throat hit and is great for vapers who prefer lower nicotine strengths or use more powerful vape kits.
- Shortfills — These are larger bottles of nicotine-free vape juice, with space left at the top so you can add your own nic shot. They’re popular with sub ohm vapers who go through more e-liquid and like having control over nicotine levels.

E-liquids come in various nicotine strengths, allowing you to customise your vape to your preferences. Common options include:
- 0mg — Nicotine-free shortfill e-liquids are perfect for those who just enjoy the sensation of vaping. They’re also perfect for DIY enthusiasts who want to customise their own nicotine strength by adding nicotine shots.
- 3mg - 6mg — A low to moderate level, often chosen by casual vapers.
- 12mg - 18mg — Higher strengths for people who recently switched from smoking.
Nicotine salts can range from 10mg to 20mg, delivering a powerful hit without the harshness of freebase nicotine. To find out more, read our guide on What Are Nic Salts?
Not all vape juices work with every device, so it’s essential to match the right type with your vape:
- Mouth to lung (MTL) devices — These work best with high-PG e-liquids, such as 50/50 or 60VG/40PG blends. Nicotine salts also pair well with MTL devices, offering a strong throat hit similar to smoking cigarettes. It's ideal for ex-smokers or anyone who prefers a tighter, more restricted draw.
- Direct to lung (DTL) devices — These are designed for use with high-VG e-liquids, like shortfills. They produce bigger clouds and a smoother inhale, making them perfect for vapers who enjoy rich flavours and a more open, airy draw.
- Restricted Direct to Lung (RDTL) devices — These sit between MTL and DTL, offering a looser draw than MTL but tighter than full DTL. RDTL devices work well with balanced e-liquids, such as 50/50 or 60VG/40PG blends, and can handle both freebase and nic salt options depending on the coil. You’ll get moderate clouds, smoother flavour, and a more open inhale without going full cloud-chaser.
The longevity of an e liquid bottle depends on your vaping habits and the bottle size. Here’s a rough estimate:
- 10ml bottle — Lasts about 3,000 puffs and can refill a 2ml vape pod or tank up to five times.
- 50ml bottle — Offers approximately 10,000 to 15,000 puffs, refilling a vape pod or tank up to 25 times.
- 100ml bottle — You’re looking at around 20,000 to 30,000 puffs, refilling a vape pod or tank up to 50 times!
Yes, e-liquids do expire. Most e-liquids have a shelf life of about 2 years, but the flavour and nicotine strength may decrease over time. To keep your vape juice fresh, store it in a cool, dark place, and check for changes in colour, flavour, or consistency.
Most vape juice bottles have childproof caps, which means you'll need to push the cap down firmly while twisting it anti-clockwise.
If you're finding it difficult, try using a cloth or rubber grip to get a better hold. Just be careful not to squeeze the bottle too hard while opening, as it can cause it to spill. Once it's open, always reseal properly to keep it fresh and store it somewhere safe and out of reach of children or pets.
E-liquid is made up of just a few key ingredients:
- Propylene Glycol (PG) — A thin, flavour-carrying liquid that gives a stronger throat hit.
- Vegetable Glycerine (VG) — A thicker liquid that creates bigger clouds and a smoother inhale.
- Flavourings — These give your vape juice its taste, whether it’s fruity, minty, dessert-like, or tobacco-based.
- Nicotine — This is optional! You can choose different strengths or go nicotine-free if you prefer. There are two main types: freebase nicotine, which gives a stronger throat hit and works well at lower strengths, and nicotine salts, which are smoother and absorb faster, ideal for higher strengths and smaller pod kits.
That’s it! No smoke, no tar, just a carefully balanced mix designed to deliver flavour and vapour.
